Lunch Meeting Friday, Nov. 6
Historic DeKalb County Courthouse
101 E. Court Square | 12:15 pm
OUR SPEAKER THIS WEEK:
Mark Reidl, PhD. AI and Machine Learning
Mark Riedl, PhD, is the director of Georgia Tech's Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence Lab, which conducts research involving computational narrative, responsible AI, intelligent agents, and computational creativity. He is the Githesh Ramamurthy Endowed Professor of AI at Tech, where his research centers on human-centered artificial intelligence, particularly creating AI and machine-learning systems that understand people and interact with them in more natural ways.
The DeKalb Rotary Council meets monthly for fellowship over lunch and to discuss what’s happening with the many clubs in DeKalb County. The council also looks for ways to partner on service projects. In early 2027, the council will host a special breakfast program to recognize DeKalb County STAR teachers and students and to give out Rotarian awards. Stay tuned for more details about that event.
Everyone is invited to attend. Get to know other DeKalb Rotarians and expand your network! Ask Lawrence Sharp or Dud Larus for more information.

Pat Walsh (left, not in costume) gave the invocation. Speaker Shara Sanders (right) dressed in costume as the captain of the ship.
One of Decatur Rotary’s own was the lunch speaker last week. Shara Sanders is the executive director of Leadership DeKalb, and she explained what the organization does, how it selects its “classes,” and what it offers to participants. Alumni are informed decision makers, civically engaged, and inclined to perform public or community service. Many Rotarians are also Leadership DeKalb alums.
We welcomed several visitors last week:
Jarvis Adams, guest of Lawrence Sharp
Jennifer Burton and Lonita Broome,
guests of Gyimah Whitaker
Amanda Lynch, guest of Bob Wilson
Myria Peek, guest of Maria Alvarez
Danielle Stewart and Debbi Powe,

We hope to see you again soon!
