The Little Blue Truck and the
Big Green Box Event
Don Crost from Naples Rotary will attend our Thirsty Thursday on April 6 at Twain's. He plans to stay over in Decatur that night before heading up to Chattanooga on Friday, April 7. He's asked if there might be a place for him to spend Thursday night at a local Rotarian's home. Got a spare bed? Let me know! Thank you. —President Alan
More from Don:
"As a unique way to draw more attention to the important mission of ShelterBox, I'm driving my 1953 Chevy pickup truck from my home club, the Rotary Club of Bonita Naples, to Rotary International headquarters in my hometown of Evanston, Illinois.
My journey begins on March 30, ending in Evanston on April 16. In keeping with my vintage theme, the drive will take me up old US Highway 41 with stops at clubs and districts closest to this route."

KEYNOTE SPEAKER:
David Lawhorn on ‘Walking Like a Giant’
David Lawhorn makes a point about "absolute belief"
Our keynote speaker, David Lawhorn, first talked about why people we see on the street are not smiling. They are not living the life they desire. He then provided a focused message explaining the two dynamics that separate us from everyone else on the planet and can create champions.
Dynamic 1: Absolute Belief
Champions do not doubt. However, "absolute belief" is honed by trials that make one stronger. David told the story of how the Atlanta Falcons lost the Super Bowl and David believes the difference was that Tom Brady had absolute belief that his team could succeed while doubt crept into the Falcons minds, and they ultimately lost.
Dynamic 2: Strategic Communication
How you talk to yourself, according to David, is the fuel for absolute belief. The inner communication of champions is a critical component of their success. Champions understand that their inner dialogue, beliefs, and attitudes play a vital role in their performance, and they work hard to cultivate a positive and empowering inner communication style. They use positive self-talk, visualization techniques, and mindfulness practices to strengthen their mental resilience and focus. By cultivating a growth mindset, champions are able to view setbacks and failures as opportunities to learn and grow, rather than obstacles to overcome. They also understand the importance of self-care, such as getting enough sleep, eating a healthy diet, and engaging in regular exercise, as these practices help to support their overall well-being and mental health.
Inner communication is not just about positive thinking, but also about being honest with oneself and acknowledging weaknesses and areas for improvement. Champions use self-reflection to identify areas for growth and set realistic goals to help them achieve their full potential. By mastering their inner communication, champions are able to maintain their motivation, focus, and mental clarity, enabling them to perform at their best even under pressure.
These two dynamics create:
• Consistency
• Commitment
• Accountability
• And Success
