DeKalb County Schools
Dr. Norman C. Sauce III has served as Interim Superintendent of the DeKalb County School District since November 2025. His long tenure with the school district includes roles as Chief of Student Services, as Area Superintendent for High Schools, and as Region IV Superintendent. Dr. Sauce has also held positions of leadership within the Griffin-Spalding County School System, as Executive Director of Student Support Services and as Executive Director of Elementary Education.

Attend a DeKalb Rotary Council Meeting
The DeKalb Rotary Council meets monthly for fellowship over lunch and to discuss what’s happening with the many clubs in DeKalb County. The council also looks for ways to partner on service projects. In early 2027, the council will host a special breakfast program to recognize DeKalb County STAR teachers and students and to give out Rotarian awards. Stay tuned for more details about that event.

At last week’s meeting, the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, we remembered, reflected, and grieved. Rev. Todd Speed’s invocation was a moving tribute to those who perished, who survived, and who helped others on that day and the days after. President Eric led us in a moment of silence. The message weaving through the meeting was one of hope, of recognizing the humanity in all those around us, of seeking connection with others in a spirit of community.

Dud Larus introduced our speaker, Capt. Kelvonte Byrd of the Decatur Fire Department. Capt. Byrd gave remarks about how the fire department serves as a community partner, and mentioned a new partnership with Agnes Scott College that will support public health in a high-risk population. Capt. Byrd also commemorated the brave efforts as well as sacrifices of the 9/11 emergency responders.
Youth in Ukraine
Dud also introduced us to the This Child Here organization, a ministry that offers programs for Ukrainians living through war, especially children, teens, and mothers. To learn more about supporting their efforts, go to thischildhere.org.
