Recap: Friday, Oct. 9
Last week, President Eric Lucas introduced our speaker, Karen Torghele. A former CDC epidemiologist and Global Health Chronicles oral historian, Torghele talked about the subject of her new book, Albert Sabin: The Life of a Polio Vaccine Pioneer. Sabin, the developer of the oral polio vaccine, was a proponent of mass immunization efforts to protect children around the world from polio’s devastating effects. Sabin joined Rotary International leadership in 1985 to launch the PolioPlus initiative, which has been enormously successful.
From Karen Torghele’s presentation
We were pleased to have two visitors, Nancy Lucas, guest of President Eric, and Pamela De Pompo, a visiting Rotarian from New Brunswick, NJ.
