Club members got to know a bit about their own friend and Rotarian, Capt. Jamaal Ellis and the wonderful work he and his wife do each day.
Salvation Army Capt. Jamaal Ellis provided us with a complete background on the Salvation Army and how he helps people and especially youth in Dekalb County for the Peachcrest Command of the Salvation Army’s Boys and Girls Club.
He started with background on the organization including its mission: The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.
The Peachcrest Boys and Girls Club is a key emphasis for Jamaal as they serve and provide a place for "latch-key" or "black sheep" kids to thrive. Jamaal also introduced his guest, NFL star, Julius Williams who helps coach and work the kids at the Peachcrest Club. The programs offered by the Salvation Army Boys and Girls
Clubs typically include:
Academic Support: Many clubs offer homework help, tutoring, and educational activities to support children's academic progress.
Recreational Activities: These include sports, arts and crafts, music, dance, and other activities that encourage physical activity and creative expression.

Spiritual Growth: The Salvation Army is a Christian organization, so some clubs might include elements of spiritual growth and faith-based activities in their programming.
The Salvation Army Boys and Girls Clubs aim to create a supportive and nurturing environment where children and teenagers can learn, grow, and develop into responsible and caring adults. These clubs operate as part of The Salvation Army's broader mission to serve those in need and provide assistance to vulnerable populations.
