A Fond Farewell from Karla

 

 

Rotary Exchange student Karla Skolnikova gave a fond farewell to the U.S. and Decatur Rotary on Friday, taking time from her busy schedule to stop by. She thanked the club for helping her come to Decatur and arranging her time at Decatur High School. Karla showed a slide presentation that illustrated all the fantastic clothes and shoes she accumulated during her stay as well as all the great cities she has visited, concerts, fine dining and so much more. We wish Karla all the best and thank her for being a great Rotary Exchange Student.

Lynn covers key points from her latest best-selling book.

 

Author Lynn Cullen takes an interesting perspective for this book whose subject is Dorothy Horstmann, a woman battling the social norms of a time when women struggled mightily for success. In this slide she shows the big names in polio, Salk and Sabin, who often took the front-page credit while people, often women, behind the scenes did the hard work as did the book’s heroine.

 

  
Lynn recognized that Rotary has been a champion in the fight to eradicate polio for many years, and showed a photo from the days when polio was sweeping the nation, and Rotary was there, helping the cause.
