Kicking off 2024:
Expert Health and Fitness Tips from DeWitte Thompson

Dan DeWoskin, no stranger to fitness, introduced our speaker.

Health and fitness expert Dewitte Thompson spoke to the club about what's on many people’s mind these days in the new year – health and fitness.

Dewitte is passionate about the need to pursue health and wellness.

He emphasized three points for success: 1. Mindset, 2. Nutrition, 3. Exercise

Why is the order of these concepts important? First, he spoke about Mindset: Dewitte emphasized consistency over time. A mindset that supports consistency is critical. Doing exercise every day, even for a few minutes, is better than doing extensive exercise once a week. It’s vital to build a habit.

Second, he spoke about nutrition, and he took a unique perspective. Instead of a punitive attitude, he takes a positive one with this clients by ‘adding’ in nutrition instead of taking away ‘bad’ foods. For example, if you want to eat pizza, well, that's OK, but also add in a cup of kale. “You can’t outwork a bad diet,” Dewitte said.

Finally, he spoke about exercise and talked about a way to achieve success suggesting that for beginners, we start small doing a bare minimum and working our way up. This can reduce frustration and burnout.

He concluded, “Decoding health and wellness is a huge challenge in our lives, but one commonality is being consistent over time which allows us to focus.

President Tozzi shows Dewitte a book on fitness being awarded to the DeKalb Library in his honor.
