JANUARY 2 NO MEETING Happy New Year!
Did you know that our club gives out community grants based on what we fundraise? And did you know that our club must pay to participate (or for expenses incurred) in such programs as Rotary Youth Exchange, the MLK Jr. Service project, scholarships for high school students, and Laws of Life?
Your club dues help pay for meals, meeting space, and organizational dues to Rotary International, but they don’t cover programs or costs associated with hosting an annual fundraising event, for instance.
Let’s build up the Decatur Foundation and start 2026 strong. Our goal is to raise $10,000, which will primarily support our community grants program.
The more you give, the more Decatur Rotary can do good in our community. The needs are great—thank you for your generosity!

Doug Robinson announced the dates for our annual MLK service project: January 17-19, 2026. Everyone is invited to participate. We will team up to do home repairs and painting for some elderly residents in the Decatur community. Doug has emailed everyone a link to register – be sure to sign up for a shift or two!

Your Club Needs You!
Our club needs a Treasurer-in-Training.
Pete plans to step down from this role next summer, and we need someone to shadow him now and be ready to take over for the 2026-27 year. The treasurer processes funds collected, provides financial reports to the Board, and works closely with the President, Board, and membership. Duties include invoicing members, depositing checks, working with the accounting firm, and approving invoices. This is a big club commitment!

Last week, past president Jason Conn presided over the meeting in President Alison’s absence. Art Rosser introduced our speaker, Neal Freeman, the CEO of Competitive Social Ventures, which created the Roaring Social speakeasy in Decatur. Neal spoke about wanting to create a fun experience in an environment welcoming to everyone.
Dudley Larus and Genevieve Hampton announced we will try a new fundraising event: a murder mystery themed party, likely to take place in February. Stay tuned for more details!
