Applications are now open to host a high school exchange student in the City of Decatur school system for the 2026-27 year. If you want to be part of something great, volunteer to host a student for about three months. It sounds like a short time, but it is life-changing for you and the student. On March 13, at the DeKalb Rotary Joint Breakfast, Doug Robinson received the Bill Mulkey “Show Rotary Cares” Award in recognition of his leadership with our Martin Luther King Jr. Day service project. Dud Larus was honored as a nominee for the Bob Grant “You Are the Key” Award. Decatur High teacher Erika Leach received a Teacher of the Year award. The DeKalb Rotary Council also presented a check to Captain Jamaal Ellis, of the Peachcrest Salvation Army, to help continue their work supporting the children of DeKalb County.

Last week, Genevieve Hampton introduced our speaker, Larry Padilla, the CEO of Decatur Housing. During a very informative presentation, Padilla explained how housing is economic infrastructure, and he discussed the complexities involved in building affordable housing.
