Recap: Friday, Oct. 16
Jason Conn introduced speaker Caroline Berchuck
Last week our speaker was Dr. Caroline Morgan Berchuck, a physician for women in midlife and co-Director of Women's Health for the McKinsey Health Institute. She spoke about the historical data gap between men’s and women’s health – that nearly all medical research has been conducted for the male body and that disease symptoms and appropriate medication dosages can vary significantly for men and women. She also discussed the alarming maternal health statistics for Georgia: our rate of pregnancy-related deaths is nearly twice the U.S. rate, and Black mothers in our state die at twice the rate of white mothers.
We welcomed a few visitors last week:
J. Tom Morgan, guest of our speaker and former Decatur Rotarian
RYE student from Brazil, Alice, and her host mom Emily Howard, guests of the club
Chuck Veal, guest of Tonya Veal
We hope to see you again soon!
